Other Highway Dept. Project Updates: July 25, 2010 - DDS Contractors, working for NYSEG, has installed the new 6” gas main under the east side from Main to Foster. Tie-ins are still necessary at Main and Jackson intersections. For the next 2 weeks they will continue to install new individual gas services from the new main to each home. After that they intend to start sidewalk, lawn and driveway restorations. If you have any questions about NYSEG’s project there is a NYSEG inspector who is on the job each day. May 27, 2010 - Last year the Palmyra Highway Department completed a street reconstruction project between Main Street and Jackson Street. Every year I update our local NYSEG gas contact on the street projects that we have on the horizon. For the two years leading up to this Hyde Parkway street project we had been in discussions with NYSEG about a gas main replacement. As the residents on Hyde Parkway know, NYSEG was hoping to get easements along the east side for their new main, however, they were unsuccessful. As a result, I recently learned that starting sometime in the next couple weeks, they will be installing a new gas main directly underneath the sidewalk on the east side of the street from Main Street to Foster Street. I understand there will be no impacts to the recently paved section of Hyde Parkway, but open cuts will be necessary on Jackson Street and Foster Street to tie-in their mains. As a result of the Canandaigua Street detour this summer onto Hyde Parkway, we will be pushing off our street project for the stretch between Jackson and Foster another year, but there will be a new sidewalk along the entire east side of the street which is needed.
South Creek Road August 8, 2010 - This past week we milled South Creek Road. This week we intend to complete some drainage work on the adjacent Vault Road. Next week we intend to pave South Creek Road and a portion of Vault Road. Paving is tentatively scheduled for August 17th and 18th. July 25, 2010- Palmyra Highway and Midland Asphalt intend to grind South Creek Road from Vault Road to Port Gibson Road the first week of August. We are currently in the process of completing our remaining drainage work before we grind the road. The road will essentially be a gravel road for about two weeks. Paving is tentatively scheduled for mid-August. We will follow this work up with the addition of new shoulders and finally any other restoration work. Residents will be notified of any access issues or delays. May 27, 2010 - Starting next week we will continue changing out some storm culverts that we did not get completed last summer. There will be some road closures over the next couple weeks between the Vault Road and Port Gibson Road intersections as we complete this work. Despite the lack of a NYS Budget still and our CHIPs money we are still hoping to complete this road reconstruction project this summer.
Washington Street August 8, 2010 - This week we intend to complete all remaining sidewalk work. We hope to pour the west side on Tuesday August 10th and the east side on Thursday August 12th. On Monday the 16th and Tuesday the 17th we intend to box-out the east side for granite curbing installation on Wednesday the 18th. The remainder of the month of August will be devoted to driveway and lawn restoration work. Paving is intended for early September.
